STAR TREK ADVENTURES CAMPAIGN
BACKGROUND: The What, Who, Where, When, and Why.
Where is the STAR TREK ADVENTURES campaign going to be set? The Donatu sector on the border of the Klingon Empire and the United Federation of Planets near the area known as the "Triangle". Why there? Because it’s a hot spot between the Federation and the Klingons, and the Klingon vs UFP rivalry is EPIC. Next to the Vulcans, the Klingons are by far the most popular extraterrestrials in the Star Trek Universe. The Klingons are also one of the oldest races in Star Trek, dating back to Season 1 of the original series. The only species that is perhaps more iconic and well-known are the Vulcans.
Timing for the STAR TREK ADVENTURES campaign will be right after the events of the 1st STAR TREK MOTION PICTURE in the mid 2270s. So it will be after the 1st Film, but BEFORE the Wrath of Khan which takes place in 2282. I have decided it will be 2274 AD Earth time.
A note about the date picked. It gives a good cut off point for ships and races available. All TOS vessels will still be in front line service while the new Movie Generation ships are JUST becoming available.
Another Dating Note
It is somewhat unclear as to what exact year the first Star Trek movie took place. StarTrek.com, Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 39), and the Star Trek Encyclopedia (3rd ed., p. 691) written by Michael Okuda, place The Motion Picture in 2271, stating that it took place 2.5 years after the end of the last five-year mission. Kirk's five-year mission began in 2265, and ended in 2270. This would establish the earliest point at which The Motion Picture could have possibly taken place some time in either 2272 or 2273 (depending at what point in 2270 the ship ended the five-year mission).
Apocryphally, the dating of the film has been set by Pocket Books to be 2273 in their 2006 chronology Voyages of Imagination. The novel Triangle supports this dating, as it is set after The Motion Picture, and takes place seven years after "Amok Time", in 2274. Also, the novelization of the film written by Gene Roddenberry states that it has been 2.8 years (nine Vulcan seasons) since Spock left the crew. Due to all this obscurity, however, Memory Alpha leaves the exact canonical dating open, and simply dates the film at the 2270s.
Soooo 2274 it is.
So that's Where, When, and Why. Now for Who; Players is this campaign can have character in Star Fleet and the Klingon Deep Space Fleet. My only restriction is that they have no more than one for each organization. As with all my "Naval War gaming campaigns" I encourage players to have a "Character" with each nationality. In this campaign, we are starting with just two, but others will be added as we go.
So finally is the What; the players will be Exploring, Developing and Defending/Conquering the Donatu Sector for the advancement of their perspective Stellar Governments.
DONATU Sector
ST Star Sectors in General: 20 by 20 Light Year cubes
100 by 100 LY cubes have roughly 5000 stars in this area of the MWG, a 20 by 20 LY cube will have 200 stars
Below is a list of systems within the Donatu Sector:
o Drozana Station (K-9)
Donatu II is a the second planet in the Donatu System. It is class-J, and its iron core combined with its close proximity to its sun gives it a strong magnetosphere trapping stellar wind plasma.
There is a large and rich asteroid field inbetween Donatu II & III
Ruins of an ancient outpost is on Donatu V and it's moon.
There is a sizable Klingon colony on Donatu V
Donatu V, known in Klingonese as Dona'tu vagh, was the inhabited fifth planet of its system. The system was located in the same quadrant as Sherman's Planet, Deep Space Station K-7, and an unnamed Klingon outpost. Ownership of this planet, as well as the rest of the region, was disputed between the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire from the point of first contact through the late 2260s.
The Battle of Donatu V, one of the few brush wars fought between the two powers during the Federation-Klingon Cold War, was fought here in 2245. The battle was inconclusive. (TOS: "The Trouble with Tribbles")
T'Kuvma referred to the battle in rallying the Klingon High Council to his banner in 2256. (DIS: "Battle at the Binary Stars")
In 2328, this was the home of the Donatu V Spaceport. (TNG-R: "Inheritance")
In 2374, during the Dominion War, the Jem'Hadar had destroyed three convoys of Klingon cargo vessels on their way to this planet. For the fourth convoy, the IKS Rotarran was ordered to escort cargo vessels, which included the IKS Par'tok, to Donatu V. The mission was a success. (DS9: "Sons and Daughters")
Cursa (Beta Eridani) was a F-class star. According to a map of the Klingon Empire – prepared by the Scribe K'Tark for the Klingon High Council in the Year of Kahless 893 (2266} – Cursa was identified as a Klingon star.
Cursa (Beta Eridani) Beta Eridani (β Eridani, abbreviated Beta Eri, β Eri), also named Cursa,[13] is the second-brightest star in the constellation of Eridanus, located in the northeast end of this constellation near the shared border with Orion. The apparent visual magnitude of this star is 2.796,[2] so it can be viewed with the naked eye in dark skies. Parallax measurements yield an estimated distance of about 89 light-years (27 parsecs) from the Earth.[1] β Eridani is a spectral type of A3 III,[3] NOT a F, with the III luminosity class indicating this is a giant star that has consumed the hydrogen at its core and evolved away from the main sequence. The effective temperature of the outer envelope is about 8,104 K,[5] which gives the star a white hue typical of A-type stars.[
K7 (Which orbits) Sherman's Planet boarders the Western Edge Donatu sector and is in the Aldebaran Sector.
K8, 9, 10 & 11 Run a diagonal from the middle of the western boarder to the NE corner of the Donatu sector
