The Investigators: |
After the team gives its report to Captain
Malon, he gives the team June 3rd to sleep in and then ride to Versailles, a
10 mile ride southwest. At the Royal Palace of Versailles they will meet with the Captain
where he
will "Interview" the Counte Fenalik about the murder of the
Raymonds at their print shop in Paris the night before.
On their ride to Versailles the team notes the beautiful, but dry French country side. Much of the usually lush green fields lay tan and dry due to a severe winter in 1788-9 and an extremely dry spring. On arrival at the palace, the contrast to the desperation of the streets of Paris is striking. There is no famine here. Hundreds of courtiers, exquisitely dressed gentlemen and ladies, promenade along paths in-between well watered gardens, fountains and gazebos that contain tables laden with fruit, cheese, cakes and lots of wine. The team meet up with Captain Malon and Dr. Rigault. They spend hours talking, listening to gossip and mostly being snubbed by the "Aristros Courtiers" trying to find Comte Fenalik. They catch up with him just after sunset...
