Scene One: Operation Rubber

Friday, March 27th 1942

Rio de Janeiro Time : 19:19 Late Evening’s Twilight

The Free French Submarine Cruiser Surcouf a emerges from the Dream Lands gate into Rio de Janeiro harbor:

The captain frowns and then allows the team to take turns looking through the Periscope.

Through the wide angle search lens they see what first appears to be mist is quickly realized to be smoke. The burning smoking wrecks of the Brazilian heavy cruisers Rio Grande De Sol, and Bahia along with five Brazilian destroyers drift, decks awash and sinking slowly into the harbor. Several of the Nazi U-Boats are visible in the distance shelling the Presidential Palace on the west side of the bay. Nache Wolf Panzer walkers are also visible climbing onto the shore and firing on the Palace.

It looks like the gate deposited the U-Boats about an hour ahead of the Free French Submarine Cruiser Surcouf.

There is then a shout and some franticly spoken French from the sonar operator, the captain instructs the current team member looking through periscope to spin around and look astern.

The Brazilian dreadnought Sao Paulo is moving up behind the Free French Submarine Cruiser Surcouf. The Captain is about to order evasive maneuvers when the great ship enters the area that the Surcouf had just traversed, AND VANISHES.

Cmdr. McTaggart, winces, then pulled his “Glass Pad” from his jacket and casts a quick spell.

“The gate was still open, or was when the Sao Paulo entered it. It’s closed now….”

Lt Cmdr. Chance, who has been working with the radio operator for the last few minutes as soon as the Surcouf ire-entered the “waking world” confirms their suspicions:

The AXIS have a coup under way in Rio de Janeiro and the ALLIED response, Operation Rubber has been set in motion. The 82nd Airborne is parachuting into Rio de Janeiro.

“We have to save the Brazilian President Vargas”….

Scene Two: The deck of the Free French Subamrine Cruiser SURCOUF

The Free French Submarine Cruiser Surcouf launches its Two Walker Mechs and  the P55D to engage the 500 German SS commandoes, 1000 Deep ones, 6 German Nache Wolf Mechs and a Nazi Blood Mage summoned Hunting Horror.

When the Coup started three days back, the US Army 82nd Airborne Division was moved to San Juan Puerto Rico, then transferred to Recife  in North East Brazil. They are now in the process of parachuting into the City, and litterally being eaten alive by a Hunting Horror....

It the ensuing battle, the Surcouf ewith her team of mechs save President Varges, destroy, 5 of the 6 German Nache Wolf Mechs, sink 7 of the 10 U-Boat Battle Cruisers and dispel the Hunting Horror.

The Long Street Mech and the P55D is wrecked, and the last German Nache Wolf Mech and 450 of the German SS commandoes escape to San Paulo where the Pro Nazi insurrectionists have taken over the city.

As a reward President Varges gives the team a family heirloom; a glooming green jewel from his mother's side of the family from the Azores, the "Loc Nar".

Thanks to the teams actions, Brazil and the rest of South America don't join the AXIS, or at least not yet. Because the Coup in Brazil failed, the Governments of Argentina and Chile have decided to wait and see how the Nazis and their other allies support their Brazilian allies in San Paulo.

Plan Rubber:

Achtung Cthulhu Back Ground:  In December 1941, Under-Secretary Welles persuaded Vargas to allow 150 US Marines into the airfields at Recife, Natal and Belém, disguised as aircraft mechanics. They were ordered to guarantee the safety and security of the airfields and transiting US aircraft, but were reminded that they were there under the invitation of the Brazilian authorities. This success sparked pro-Nazi elements in Brazil. Plans were formed to intervene if a “Pro-NAZI coup” was to take control of Brazil.

The newly formed 82nd Air borne Division was to be flown first into Recife and then down to Rio de Janeiro. President Roosevelt urged a diplomatic solution to prevent this from happening. Roosevelt was quick to realize that Vargas needed to maintain the respect of his population, Vargas needed to save face, so Roosevelt's moves were slowly and carefully arranged to allow this to happen. At the very time when the US staff was planning to land troops in Brazil, Roosevelt ordered the export of guns and ammunition to Brazil, which raised the level of support for the Allies amongst the Brazilian government and military. This opened the way for a meeting of Foreign Ministers of the South American nations in January 1942, at which the US urged its neighbors to sever diplomatic relations with Germany. Increasing support for the Allied cause led to Brazil doing just that at the end of the meeting. The culmination of this careful policy was the signing in March 1942 of the Brazilian-American Defense Agreement, which allowed for full US support of the defense of Brazil. Now the Pro-NAZI elements in Brazil are making their move, and the SS Black Sun and Nache Wolves have suddenly appeared in Rio’s GuanaBara bay to help…

Scene Three: Epilogue on the Free French Subamrine Cruiser SURCOUF

The Free French Submarine Cruiser Surcouf is being restocked with two replacement vehicles of the teams choice (M14s or P55Ds or a combination of the two). The submarine is re fueled and re provisioned, the main batteries magazines re-loaded, BUT they cant get more French torpedoes, and the  Surcouf can only use French torpedoes.  She is down to 12 and only the heavy ones for her forward torpedo tubes.

The Team also collected a total of 87 Magic Tridents the Deep ones were using during their assault on the Brazilian President's palace.

Once the Free French Submarine Cruiser Surcouf is ready she will be sailing to the Indian Ocean for her next mission....
