Its 1789 and France is bankrupt. Just 5 years after being on the winning side of the American War of Independence, France has lost its last foothold in India, an economic disaster, and has little to show for its victory other than aiding the Americans in shaming their ancient enemy, the British with a defeat. Now with a famine raising the price of bread and an epidemic of cholera killing thousands of Parisians, the flames of revolution are igniting in France.
