1776 –Colonial Gothic the Longest Island: The Sailor
You are a person in demand. The 18th century economy runs on mercantilism, the oceans are its life blood, and cargo ships are its Red Blood cells. It’s no coincidence that the power fullest nations on the planet in the late 18th century also had the highest number of sailors per capita. Even with this large pool of skilled labor, nearly 4 out of 10 British Royal Navy sailors in 1775 were either Irish or from the North American colonies. Many of these same sailors would join the rebels (Patriots) during that and later years of the war.
